Father of the Bride (1991)
As warm as it gets, this classic is about a father (Steve Martin) coming to terms with his 22-year-old daughter's (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) wedding. She returns home from studying abroad to drop a bombshell—she’s planning to get engaged! It throws the doting dad into a comic panic with misunderstandings galore as he’s unable to deal with the fact that his little girl is grown up and soon, moving out of the house. Entertainment, for sure!
Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)
In this Brit comedy, Hugh (cute-as-a-button) Grant plays Charles, a bachelor, who finds it tough share how he feels to the woman (Andie MacDowell) he is infatuated with. It takes him five occasions to do so as he realises more about himself and of love. The film finds a spot in the British Film Institute's 100 greatest British films of the 20th century.
My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)
Presenting Julianne (Julia Roberts), a food critic who is shocked to know her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) is soon set to tie the knot with an absolutely charming Kimberley (Cameron Diaz). All her emotions come to the fore as she tries to play saboteur and win her bestie’s love.
The Wedding Singer (1998)
Go down memory lane with this rom-com starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. In it, wedding singer Robbie (Sandler) who is left stranded at the altar helps a waitress (Barrymore) plan her wedding to Glen, a Wall Street investor. As the two spend time together, they ealise how much they mean to each other.
The Wedding Planner (2001)
Such a fun throwback film! This one sees Jennifer Lopez play a wedding planner (Mary Fiore) who falls for a handsome doctor (Matthew McConaughey) when he saves her from an accident. They end up spending a lovely evening together, but wait, all isn’t hunky-dory yet; he is someone else’s groom! Some absolutely memorable moments in this rom-com.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
It doesn’t get more charming than this screen plot that sees 30-year-old Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos), a Greek-American woman who’s a little tired of her louder-than-life family. She goes back to school and finds love in Ian. The issue? He’s not Greek. And therein starts the chaos, comedy, acceptance and finally, a wedding!
27 Dresses (2008)
A rom com that can make you laugh out loud! This film has Jane Nichols (played by actress Katherine Heigl) who’s been a bridesmaid a whopping 27 times, but never the bride! She’s then tasked to plan her sister's wedding, but it’s to the guy she secretly loves. Will she get the guy or won’t she?
Mamma Mia! (2008)
This musical comedy set the benchmark for feel-good films! It sees bride-to-be Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), chance upon her mother’s old diary and realise she has three candidates for her dad! She invites all three to her upcoming wedding. What also makes the movie such a hit is its stunning island backdrop, foot-stamping soundtrack with hits by ABBA, romance and more. Past perfect, we think!
Bride Wars (2009)
Bring out the shields, this one has two best friends warring over their wedding being accidentally booked on the same day! Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway), both want their big dream wedding at the Plaza Hotel. But can they have it? Enter pranks, squabbles and laughter as you sift through their fights.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
One of this film’s biggest grabs is its all-star cast, led by Constance Wu and Henry Golding. It has American-born Chinese professor, Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), jetting off to Singapore to meet boyfriend Nick Young's (Henry Golding) family. She is shocked to learn he is very rich and then begins her struggle to fit into his ultra-luxe world. The film sees throws up cultural identity and family values in a world of opulent parties, Singaporean life and that gorgeous wedding dress, as she navigates it all. Unmissable? The rendition of Can't Help Falling in Love by Kina Grannis.
