    Chupke Chupke (1975)

This Hrishikesh Mukherjee classic flips Dharmendra’s macho image on its head. He plays Parimal Tripathi, a botany professor who disguises himself as his own driver, Pyare Mohan, just to prank his brother-in-law. What follows is a riot of linguistic jokes timed perfectly, miscommunication, and his sweet romantic moments with the female lead, Sharmila Tagore. Dharmendra’s comic timing is top-notch throughout the film.

    Seeta Aur Geeta (1972)

In this twin-swap comedy, Dharmendra plays Raka, a street performer who falls for Geeta, the feisty twin, played by Hema Malini. The plot follows identical sisters separated at birth, one meek, Seeta, and one bold, Geeta, and what ensues is a whole lot of confusion when the two sisters switch places.

    Dillagi (1978)

Here, Dharmendra as Swarn Kamal is a newly appointed Sanskrit professor at a girls’ college where he falls head over heels for the no-nonsense chemistry lecturer Phoolrenu, played by Hema Malini. The film, directed by Basu Chatterjee, is situational and sweet. Swarn Kamal’s attempts to woo her and win over her family are both earnest and laugh-out-loud funny.

    Tum Haseen Main Jawaan (1970)

This playful rom-com that marked the first on-screen pairing of Dharmendra and Hema Malini is every bit funny and endearing as the audience witnesses a chaotic plot when Sunil, a navy officer, rescues a child and hires a nanny, who turns out to be Anuradha, played by Hema Malini. What follows is a typical Bollywood plot as Sparks fly, misunderstandings swirl. There’s even a kidnapping drama to add to the spice.

    Dilwale Dulhaiya Le Jayenge (1995)

This movie is the absolute blueprint of what a modern Bollywood romcom looks and even feels like with a dreamy mix of runaway trains, mustard fields, and “love but make it dramatic.” SRK and Kajol’s chemistry turns a simple boy-meets-girl story into a pop culture moment. With iconic dialogues, big family emotions, and that legendary “Palat” moment, it’s the film you watch when you want something classic, chaotic, and endlessly swoon-worthy.
