Over the past few years, we’ve seen many popular K-dramas being remade into different languages, including Chinese. But successfully capturing the magic of the original in a new way is not easy.
But these romantic Chinese TV shows have managed to retain the charms of the originals and presented fans with something new to love as well.
Here are some of our favourite Chinese remakes of popular romantic K-dramas…
A remake of the 2016 K-drama W, this one follows the story of trainee doctor Wu Yan Zhu who gets sucked into the world of the popular comic universe ‘W’. In this alternate reality, she meets the lead character in that universe Jiang Zhe. Through a series of thrilling adventures, the two begin to fall in love.

Fans of K-drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo (2016) cannot give this one a miss. It follows Yuan Li, a rising judoka, who meets Jiang Gu Nan, a swimming prodigy who is battling with demons of his own. Can Yuan Li help him heal and recover from the wounds of the past?

If you don’t mind your romantic dramas with a side of extra melodrama, there’s a good chance you’ve watched (and loved) Korean TV show Fated To Love You (2016). It’s Chinese remake follows shy administrative assistant Chen Jia Xin, who meets the charming heir to a large conglomerate Wang Xi Yi on a cruise to the Bahamas. When a one-night stand results in a pregnancy, the two are forced to get married by their families. When misunderstandings and tragedies drive them apart, fate plays a role in bringing them back into each other’s paths again.

This workplace rom-com is a remake of the popular K-drama Clean With Passion For Now (2018). It follows the love story of two people who’ve been affected by familial trauma, who have also dealt with it in wildly different ways. Gu Ren Qi is the germaphobic owner of a cleaning company where the slovenly Shi Shuang Jiao works. When the two get in each other’s path, can they find a road to a happy ever after?

We loved Jung Hae-in and Son Ye-jin’s beautiful romance in Something in the Rain (2018), and the Chinese remake does full justice to the original. It follows Yin Yi Ke, who lives a seemingly perfect life. She’s content in taking care of everyone around her, except herself. All that stands to change is when she is reunited with Xu Guang Xi, a beloved face from her past. Soon, the two start getting closer, despite the difference in their ages.
