When it comes to Bollywood, there have been several movies that have focused on the nuances of weddings and marriage, sometimes about its quirks and other times about the complexities that it inculcates. And one actor who has explored a lot of these challenges, Ayushmann Khurrana, has garnered widespread attention for being someone who focuses largely on the different perspectives of a wedding.

Ayushmann Khurrana's Key Films That Focus On Marriage:

    Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017)

A romantic comedy tackling sensitive issues in a relationship, specifically focusing on erectile dysfunction before marriage. So this couple is all set to get married, everything’s cute and sorted… until a very real bedroom issue shows up and refuses to be ignored. Instead of getting preachy, the film handles it with humour and honesty. It basically says, marriage isn’t about perfection, it’s about being real with each other.

    Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015)

Imagine being stuck in an arranged marriage with someone you barely understand. That’s these two. He’s awkward and a bit shallow; she’s confident and unapologetic. There’s friction, a lot of it. But slowly, they start seeing each other differently. It’s messy, sweet, and shows how love can grow when you least expect it.

    Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020)

Two guys in love just want to be together, simple, right? Not really. Enter family drama, social pressure, and a lot of resistance. The film keeps things light and funny but hits hard where it matters. It’s about choosing love, even when everyone around you is making it unnecessarily complicated. A romantic comedy dealing with a same-sex couple, this film serves as a spiritual successor to the 2017 film.

    Bala (2019)

Okay, this one isn’t fully about marriage, but it totally gets how insecurities can mess with your love life. The main guy is super hung up on his looks and what people think of him. And that spills into his relationships big time. It’s a reminder that confidence issues don’t stay personal; they affect everything. So, while it focuses heavily on premature balding, the narrative explores the pressures and insecurities that arise in the protagonist's marriage. The plot.

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do (Upcoming - 2026)

Here’s a marriage that looks stable on the outside but starts wobbling when the husband gets bored and tempted. Classic bad decisions follow. It’s funny, a little chaotic, and honestly a bit too real. The film shows how easily things can spiral when communication disappears and honesty takes a backseat.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
