During the show, host Jimmy Fallon playfully challenged Taylor to address recent rumours about her, one of them being that she had joked that Selena had “beaten her to the altar”.

The popstar dispelled the rumour and revealed what she actually said during her toast at the wedding.  “I did make a speech, but I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement.” She stated that “Selena was the most elegant, gorgeous, not only bride but just a vision that I’ve ever seen in my life. She deserves all of this happiness. Benny is so funny. He’s the best. Nobody wants you to be like, ‘Hey, I know this is your wedding day, but I’m engaged!’ I was like, don’t mention it, maybe even turn the ring around.”

She highlighted that her speech focused on their friendship and their shared years as teenagers. “I did some light teasing about how we used to dress in 2008, the year we met,” she added.

She further explained that, back in 2008, it was the year of deep V-necks and skinny jeans, and that was what she focused on during her speech. “I talked about how happy I am for her and how beautiful it’s been to be part of her life. But I did not make it about me,” she said, finally debunking the rumours.
