There have been some incredible wedding movies in the past 25 years. Whether it’s rom-com classics, like 27 Dresses or My Big Fat Greek Wedding, or romantic dramas centred around weddings, like Crazy Rich Asians or Mamma Mia, the list is rich with options.

But as it turns out, one wedding movie has surpassed the others and entered the list of the best movies of this century so far.

Paul Feig’s 2011 comedy Bridesmaids has earned a spot on The New York Times’ list of the Top 100 movies of the 21st century. The hilarious wedding movie, starring Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne and Melissa McCarthy, was placed at number 32 on the list.

For the list, 500 “influential directors, actors, and other notable names in Hollywood and around the world” were asked to cast ballots for their favourite films released after January 1, 2000.

The movie follows Annie and her misadventures as she is asked to be the maid of honour at the wedding of her best friend Lillian. The beloved movie’s success has been credited for paving the way for other female-centric comedy movies in Hollywood, like The Heat and Girls Trip. The movie has become a cult-classic over the years, with celebrities like Saoirse Ronan claiming that it's "the best film in the world".

"What surprises is how deeply felt this Paul Feig film is: Annie is sad and jealous, unable to get out of her own way,” writes The New York Times about why the film made their list of the top 100 of the century. “We’ve all been there, though perhaps not with explosive diarrhoea.”

While the list contains some incredible titles across genres, it’s safe to say that there needs to be a separate list for the best wedding movies of this century because one list won’t ever be enough!
