Exclusive: Podcaster Prakhar Gupta And Fiancé Clau Cannot Wait For Their Indo-Mexican Wedding
The newly-engaged couple chats with Manifest about their love story, their upcoming Mexican-Indian nuptials and more…
Congratulations are in order for Prakhar Gupta and his long-term girlfriend, Clau. The popular Indian podcaster and YouTuber got engaged to the Mexican artist recently in an intimate ceremony.
“Our engagement ceremony was very private,” says Clau. “And since it was a Sunday night, and we were celebrating at Prakhar’s family home, we didn't expect the party to go too long. Cut to: it’s 3:30 AM, and people are still celebrating the engagement at Prakhar's friend’s farm. I felt so at home!” Prakhar echoes the sentiment, adding, “The best part is how naturally integrated Clau feels, especially also in the Indian ways, with my friends and family. This ceremony was a mark of just how effortless things have been with her for years.”
Where It All Started
Clau and Prakhar met in the US when the podcaster was in the country for further studies in 2021. Their first meeting, like any good rom-com meet-cute, was unplanned. “I was meeting up a friend for a pregame because everybody was going to a concert. It was a Monolink concert, right?” recalls Prakhar, turning to Clau, who agrees. “I had actually just moved to New York with my best friend, who was living there at the time, and she introduced me to Prakhar’s friend. So we met at a pregame before the concert at a really nice rooftop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn,” says Clau. The couple hit it off and exchanged numbers at the party. The rest, as the cliché goes, is history.
The Moment Of Realisation
In every love story, there is a moment where you’re hit with the realisation that you’re with the person you’d want to spend the rest of your life with. Prakhar and Clau’s story is no different. “In the first year of being together, there were a lot of moments where I started getting that sense since Prakhar was there for me when I was going through a rough time. But if I had to think of a moment, it would be the time we were in Chicago, attending a music festival. Coincidentally, it was with the same set of friends who had introduced us. I just remember being in the crowd with our friends and looking back at him. He had on this very funny mustache that he had actually shaved just to bother me, and he was just smiling at me while looking very, very beautiful. I just remember feeling a lot of love, and I went up to him, and I told him, ‘I think you're the love of my life,’ and he just kept smiling at me and admitted I was his too,” recalls Clau.
For Prakhar, the realisation dawned on him slowly till it became a surety just shortly after they began dating each other. “I think very early on in our relationship, Clau started going through a personal hardship. Quite naturally, I stuck around, and that experience was unlike anything we had ever gone through in our past. Right after that, I started going through some of the worst times in my life. And I remember feeling lost in that phase when I didn't know who was going to stick around me, and I was always afraid. I'll make a mistake. I was at my lowest, but the way Clau stuck around me, I just knew. That was it.”
The Big Fat Indo-Mexican Wedding
While the couple hasn’t finalised a wedding date (“We’re thinking some time around the end of November or December.”), they have decided their wedding has to be, in one word, “exquisite”.
“Both of us want it to be beautiful and private,” says Prakhar, adding that the couple would now be searching for wedding planners who would be able to translate their dream wedding into a reality. Speaking of their dream wedding, Clau and Prakhar want it to be a celebration of both their cultures. “We're not your traditional couple in that sense, you know? With me being Mexican and him being Indian. So for me, it's just exciting to think about how we can blend our cultures and bring what's important to each of us to the wedding. I’m familiar with the Indian shaadi scene, so I know you guys have the most beautiful weddings, and I can’t wait for that!”
While Clau might be looking forward to the band, bajaa and baraat of it all, Prakhar cannot wait to walk down the aisle with Clau at their Indo-Mexican wedding. “I can totally see myself doing that,” he says, adding, “Also, the decorations in Mexican weddings are so colourful and interesting. It’s parallel to India, and I would definitely like to accommodate that at our wedding.”
Welcoming A New Chapter In Their Lives
Their love story has weathered a lot, but it has only made their relationship stronger. The couple cannot wait to begin their next adventure together. “I want to craft a life with Clau,” says Prakhar. “I think it's a very novel challenge, given how artistic and intuitive she is and how pragmatic and straight-edged I can be. I am looking forward to integrating so much of her history into my future in a certain way. I think living together, growing together, raising a family, and being around our families is something I’m looking forward to.”
Here’s wishing Prakhar and Clau a lifetime of happiness!
