The World Cup-winning star took to her Instagram handle on Thursday to share the news with her fans and well-wishers through a choreographed Instagram reel that featured her teammates.

In the video that quickly went viral, Smriti was seen performing a choreographed routine to the song ‘Samjho Ho Hi Gaya’ from the 2006 film Lage Raho Munna Bhai. She was joined by Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy during the video and in the final frame of the viral reel, Smriti revealed her wedding ring, subtly announcing her engagement to long-time beau Palaash Muchhal.

While Smriti and Palaash had not confirmed the wedding date, an elaborate congratulatory note from Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the big reveal. As he extended his warm, heartfelt wishes to the couple, PM Modi praised the couple’s shared values and wished them a life rooted in trust, love and harmony. In the same letter, PM Modi revealed the couple’s wedding date, confirming that Palaash and Smriti are all set to tie the knot on November 23, 2025.

“It is delightful to learn about the wedding of Sou. Smriti and Chi. Palash, to be held on 23 November 2025. Heartiest congratulations and greetings to the Mandhana and Muchhal families on this auspicious and joyous occasion," PM’s letter to the couple read.

“Walking hand in hand through every season of life, may the couple find strength in each other’s presence, and may their hearts, minds, and souls be in harmony. May their dreams intertwine and grow together, guiding them towards a future filled with joy and deep understanding," it added, “May Smriti and Palash build a shared life rooted in trust, standing by each other always, embracing responsibilities with love, and growing together through each other’s strengths and imperfections."

Palaash had also hinted at the wedding during an event at the State Press Club in Indore, where he had stated that Smriti would soon become the daughter-in-law of Indore.

Palaash also took to his Instagram handle earlier today to share a heartfelt video from their proposal. The video captured the moment when he popped the question to Smriti in the quiet expanse of an empty stadium. The video was captioned, "She said yes."

While the rumours surrounding their wedding had been surfacing for a while, ever since India’s victory in the women’s World Cup, it has now finally settled as the couple prepares to begin the next chapter of their lives.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
