Why Prableen Kaur Bhomrah Is Not Your Typical Bride
Inside influencer Prableen Kaur Bhomrah and Rahul Yangaldas’s heartfelt, heritage-rich wedding.
For the hundreds of thousands of people who follow her journey online, Prableen Kaur Bhomrah has long been a voice of confidence, individuality, and self-love. So when one of India’s most celebrated skin and body positivity influencers tied the knot with her long-time partner, Rahul Yangaldas, her wedding was destined to be more than a celebration. It was a statement.
Rooted in meaning, intimate in scale, and deeply personal in every detail, Prableen’s wedding was an extension of how her “perfect proposal” came about. “He [Rahul] gets very stressed when put in the spotlight, and I didn’t want him to feel anxious. So, we agreed to skip the proposal and go ahead with a traditional engagement instead. I was in Alibag for an event, and Rahul had the house to himself for half the day. He planned everything with my friends, and proposed most intimately. Just how I would have loved it. It was just the two of us, all feeling, all heart... That’s exactly who we are as people.”
Planning the wedding, therefore, was easy as they were both on the same page. “I always wanted the wedding to be an intimate affair, with us surrounded by people we truly love,” she says. “And it had to be exactly how I imagined: the Punjabi theme, bright colours, the chooda ceremony, everything… I micromanaged every detail with my friends, and it came to life exactly the way I had envisioned.”
As an ode to her Punjabi roots, Prableen went with a classic red bridal lehenga for the main ceremony. “I was always very clear that I wanted to be a red bride,” she says. Her lehenga, from a homegrown Indian label, featured intricate gold zari and thread embroidery, a blend of elegance, heritage, and symbolism that mirrored her personality. “When I tried it on, I instantly knew that I had found the lehenga of my dreams.”
One of the most meaningful decisions the couple made was to invite a female priest to officiate the wedding. “Having a female priest was something I had in mind from the beginning,” Prableen says. “When I spoke to her on the phone, I knew I wanted her. She was so calm and understood exactly how I wanted everything to feel.” The priest also bridged two cultures with ease. She conducted the ceremony in a way that both Prableen’s Punjabi family and Rahul’s Telugu family could understand. “She explained each ritual and vow so beautifully that everyone could understand and enjoy the wedding. It truly reflected who we are.”
For Prableen, the chooda and kalira ceremonies were especially emotional. “My mamas [maternal uncles] and all of my guy best friends helped me wear the chooda. They’ve all been my rock all these years, and they stood by me during the entire wedding prep. And my bridesmaids ran the whole show…so them being present during my kalira ceremony made it even more special.”
Amidst all the chaos that comes with planning a wedding, intimate or not, Prableen and Rahul managed to find a moment that would remain special for the rest of their lives. “As I walked towards Rahul on our wedding day, all the background noise faded away. I just focused on his face and hummed our song, and I could literally see all his tension melt away. It was perfect.”
Prableen documented her wedding planning journey on Instagram and took along her Followers through every fun, painful, joyous, and tearful step. “Our wedding was a reflection of who we are. The idea behind #NotYourTYPICALdulhan came from my journey as a body-positive, PCOS bride…it was a reminder that every bride can feel beautiful in her own way,” Prableen shares
As they begin this new chapter, Prableen and Rahul are most excited about finally living together. “We have been best friends for eight years. That was the biggest reason we wanted to get married. We wanted to live together and enjoy every single day. We want to make the small moments count, find a home, grow, and have a wonderful life together.”
