Srishti Dhamani and Saksham Jain might credit their meeting to a matchmaker but their love story seems to be written in the stars. The Dubai-based couple had to traverse different time zones and their busy schedules at the beginning of their relationship but, as they say, love finds a way!

“Saksham and I began texting while I was in the United States,” says Srishti, “The time difference made our early communication a bit challenging, as I was just on holiday. When I returned to Dubai, I met him for the first time, despite being super jet-lagged. From then on, we continued meeting for about two to two and a half months. Eventually, my whole family went to Nagpur to meet his family, and everything got finalised.”

The (then) groom-to-be wanted their love story to have a special start so he planned a dreamy proposal for Srishti. “He organised a beautiful proposal at Caesar’s Palace Hotel on the beach in Dubai at sunset. He convinced me it was a birthday celebration for one of our friends, and since I was newly engaged to the family, I felt obliged to attend. Little did I know, it was all his plan to create this wonderful moment.”

For Srishti, it was Saksham’s humour that cinched the deal and made her realise he was The One. “On my birthday, while we were still just talking, he sent me the loveliest message. It wasn’t overly lovey-dovey but rather showed that he knew me very well. I admired how he takes care of everyone around him and his ability to lighten up any room with his humour. Additionally, when he first met my best friend and my brother, it felt like they had known each other for years. This level of comfort and connection was something I always wanted in a partner.”

The couple’s wedding was held at Raffles The Palm Dubai, complete with a host of pre-wedding ceremonies leading up to the grand wedding celebrations.

Captured by Delhi and London-based photographers Shruti Khanna and Jayant Chhabra of Cupcake Productions, the wedding seems straight out of a movie. “Srishti and Saksham's wedding was an extraordinary celebration of love and tradition. The couple's brief to us was clear: capture the essence of their unique moments and emotions,” says Jayant, “From Saksham's electrifying surprise dance to the heartfelt moment when the mother of the bride met her daughter before she walked down the aisle, each event was filled with pure emotion. The bridal portraits taken in front of the hotel showcased Srishti's elegance and beauty, while the emotional Vidaai ceremony left everyone in tears. Every frame we captured was a reflection of their deep bond and the love that surrounded them on their special day.”

According to Srishti, the planning for the wedding brought their families close. “My favourite part of the wedding planning process was seeing all our friends and family come together, working towards this shared goal. Everyone was super connected, and we got to hang out all the time, whether it was for planning practices, doing dances, or figuring out which dishes would make it to the actual event. It was a wonderful bonding experience.”

Her manifestations for the wedding worked perfectly, including a heartwarming one. “We manifested no rain because we were really worried about the weather!” she says, “Another thing we feel we manifested was having everyone we loved make it to the wedding. This was truly a blessing, given the crazy travel plans and the fact that we only sent out the dates three to four months before the wedding. It was tight, and there were chances that many people wouldn't be able to make it, but touch wood, everyone did. One particularly beautiful memory for me is that my grandfather was there. He recently passed away, so I’m incredibly grateful he could be at the wedding.”

Now Srishti and Saksham can’t wait to start their life together, “From the beginning of our wedding planning, we were quite relaxed about the whole process because, for us, the real excitement was about being together and beginning our journey as a married couple. We were just very eager to be together and start this new chapter in our lives, and touch wood, we’ve achieved that.”

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
