For Jagriti Pahwa and Jai Arora, love did not make a grand entry in their lives. It quietly grew, somewhere between work calls, shared events, travel and the everyday familiarity of becoming each other’s constant. Jagriti, a lifestyle creator and YouTuber from Fatehabad, Haryana, and Jai, a tech content creator from Bathinda, Punjab, had already built individual careers in the creator economy before their paths crossed.

Their first impressions were hardly romantic. Jagriti had known of Jai through mutual friends who would often appear in her Instagram Live comments, but expected him to be as loud and mischievous as the group he was associated with. In person, she found him calm, introverted and sincere. Over time, their professional friendship became something deeper, eventually leading to an engagement celebrated with their families, friends and loved ones.

Now, with their wedding planned for next year, the couple is entering a new chapter. They are already documenting parts of the journey, while deliberately keeping some moments private. And if their answers are anything to go by, there is more to their wedding story than they are ready to reveal just yet.

Here, Jagriti and Jai talk about finding love in friendship, navigating a relationship within the creator industry and what it means to plan a wedding when your audience is watching.

Manifest (M): You both grew up in Haryana and Punjab and eventually found yourselves studying in Chandigarh, where you also began your careers as content creators. Tell us a little about your individual journeys and how your paths eventually crossed.

Jagriti (J): I’m Jagriti Pahwa, originally from Fatehabad, Haryana, and Jai Arora is from Bathinda, Punjab, a city that was just about two hours away from my hometown, but one I never imagined would eventually become such an important part of my life.

Interestingly, both of us completed college in Chandigarh, and we started our individual journeys as content creators during our college years. At that point, we were completely focused on building our own lives and careers, with absolutely no idea that our paths would eventually cross and lead us here.

Looking back, it feels like we were living parallel lives for years before destiny finally decided to bring us together.

M: You first connected online through mutual friends and Instagram Live. What do you remember about those early interactions and your first impressions of each other?

J: I actually knew of Jai before I really knew Jai! There was this group of boys from college who were always tagging each other under my Instagram Live sessions. I remembered a few of their names, including Jai’s, and my impression was that they were this group of naughty, fun-loving boys who were always up to something.

What’s funny is that Jai himself had never really commented on my posts, his friends used to! So when I finally met him in person, I was quite surprised. I found him to be extremely calm, introverted and sincere, which was completely different from the image I had created in my head.

And I’m pretty sure his first impression of me was the exact opposite. He probably thought, “She’s extremely extroverted, outgoing and talkative!”

It’s funny how different your first impressions can be from who a person actually turns out to be.

M: When did your friendship turn into love? Was there a particular moment when you realised this was a relationship you wanted to build a future around?

J: I don’t think there was one dramatic moment when we suddenly realised we were in love. It happened very naturally over the years.

We had been working together for years, travelling to events together and becoming such an important part of each other’s everyday lives. Eventually, when my parents started talking about marriage, I realised that I genuinely couldn’t imagine choosing anyone else.

I couldn’t imagine my life without him. And I think that was the moment I understood that what we had built together was much more than just a friendship or a partnership.

We had already built a life where we were each other’s constant, so getting married felt like the most natural next step.

M: You both work in the creator space, albeit in very different niches. How has being in the same industry shaped your relationship?

J: Our work has probably played one of the most crucial roles in our relationship.

Interestingly, when we initially became close, we were literally just work buddies. We would spend two or three hours on calls discussing work, and I mean only work! There were no personal conversations.

Being a content creator is not a conventional nine-to-five profession. It requires a lot of time, sacrifices, flexibility and constant adjustments. Since we both work in the same field, even though our niches are different, we understand the pressures and demands of each other’s work.

We understand the terminology, the challenges, the uncertainty and even why sometimes work has to take priority. That understanding has helped us immensely. We can discuss our problems, brainstorm ideas and genuinely understand what the other person is going through without having to explain every little thing.

I think having someone who truly understands the world you work in is a very special kind of support.

M: Tell us about the engagement. What do you remember most vividly about the proposal and the celebration that followed?

J: The proposal and our engagement were actually two very different and equally special moments.

The proposal happened first, when I had planned a birthday celebration for Jai on a yacht. I had no idea he was going to propose, so it was a beautiful surprise and a very intimate moment between the two of us.

Our official engagement was a much bigger celebration with our families, friends and loved ones. Friends travelled from different cities and even different countries just to be there with us. It was a big day for us because almost every person we love was present.

Everyone had put so much effort and love into making the celebration special. It was dreamy, fairy-tale-like and filled with dancing, laughter and so many beautiful memories. Everything just felt exactly the way we wanted it to be.

M: You’re getting married next year. What can you tell us about the wedding you’re planning?

J: Let’s just say… there’s a little more to this story than what people know right now! We do have a few surprises up our sleeves, and I think it’s best if we let everyone discover them with us.

You’ll know very, very soon!

M: How involved are both of you in the wedding planning? Are you on the same page about what you want?

J: Let’s keep this one slightly mysterious for now! Let’s just say that whatever happened, it was very much a “Jagriti and Jai” kind of decision. You’ll understand exactly what I mean very soon.

M: As content creators, your wedding will inevitably become part of your digital story. How are you approaching documenting such a personal milestone?

J: Absolutely! There’s a lot that we’ve been documenting, but we’ve also intentionally kept some things under wraps.

Our audience has been a part of our journey for years, so we’re really excited to eventually share this chapter with them. At the same time, there are some moments that we wanted to experience as a couple and with our families without thinking about the camera.

So, we’re trying to find that balance, sharing the beautiful journey with our audience while also keeping some memories completely ours.

For now, though, I’ll just say, wait for it!

M: As you look ahead to the wedding and everything that comes after it, what are you most excited about? And if you had to describe this new chapter in three words, what would they be?

J: I’m most excited about everything that’s coming next. There’s actually a lot happening behind the scenes right now, and I think the next few weeks are going to be very special for us and for everyone who has followed our journey.

If I had to describe this chapter in three words, I’d say: Unexpected. Beautiful. Ours.
