Ask any bride what their one wedding dread would be and the one thing that they may share is what they’ve all been through—high- heeled hell! That's courtesy those long hours spent standing, posing and shaking a leg through the sangeet, haldi and main-day ceremonies. But it's not something that just brides alone face. If you’re a guest and just as much a part of all the chaos and fun all though the multiple celebrations, this is you, too. Of course, you really can’t swap the heels and stilettos for a pair of flats or trainers (although we know you’ve probably wished so a million times). But there’s no need to think of banishing the shoes and ruining your look. Just check out a few easy hacks and remedies that can be done at home to reduce that pain and swelling. That said, if your heel pain turns severe and makes it tough to walk, speak to an orthopedic specialist.
1. Soak Your Feet In Warm Epsom Salt Water
There’s nothing as comforting as a foot soak after all the functions of the day. Take a comfortable chair, place a tab of warm water in front of you. Add your epsom salts and a few drops or rose or lander oil to it. Soak your feet in this water to banish aches and foot tiredness. Remember to moisturise after that as epsom salts can dry the skin.
2. Use A Foam Roller or Cold Bottle Roll Under The Feet
Undoubtedly, you’ve got a lot of standing and dancing planned in your wedding day. In between, if you get a few minutes, slip off the heels and place a foam roller, frozen bottle or tennis ball under the arc of the foot and gently roll the foot over it. This reduces pain and inflammation and is a quick relief mantra. It is especially useful for plantar fasciitis.
3. Try a Massage with Warm Oils
In Ayurvedic practice, Padabhyanga works by using warm oils to nourish and soothe points on the soles, ankles, and calves. Use coconut or sesame oil and start by rubbing feet slowly in a circular movement with fingers. This aids in reducing foot tension and bringing about relaxation. It also aids better sleep if done before bedtime.
4. Morning Stretch With A Towel
Here’s a remedy that will take no more than a couple of seconds to do. And it’s right before you leave your bed. Simply take a long, thick towel. Make a loop of it and wrap it under the foot. Gently stretch your foot towards you and hold it for 15-20 seconds. Relax and repeat with the other foot.
5. Elevate the Feet
A hack that can be done post any event and through the day is to find a quiet spot on a sofa and elevate your feet. This can effectively lessen ache and throbbing and bring down swelling to have you ready for the next round of wedding festivity.
