Dua Lipa Reveals What Made Her Wedding With Callum Turner “Magical”

From experiencing the celebration like a guest to finding each other in the crowd, Dua Lipa’s wedding advice is a reminder that being present may be the most important detail of all for the couple.

Dua Lipa reveals that the “magic” of her wedding to Callum Turner came from treating the day as if they were guests, not hosts, and constantly checking in with each other. By focusing less on perfection and more on being present together, the couple turned a potentially overwhelming three-day Sicilian celebration into an intimate, memory-filled experience.

A wedding can take months of planning, countless conversations and an almost endless list of details to get right. But when the day finally arrives, there is one thing no seating plan, timeline or production meeting can guarantee: that the couple will actually stop to enjoy their wedding. For Dua Lipa and Callum Turner, the secret to making their wedding feel “magical” was surprisingly simple.

In her September cover interview with Vogue Italia, the songstress opened up about the advice she and Turner chose to follow on their wedding day. “One was to show up at our wedding like we were guests ourselves,” Lipa told the magazine, explaining that it meant they had “the best time” without feeling stressed. The second was to keep checking in with each other so they did not lose sight of one another in the crowd. “As a result, we spent loads of time together and created so many amazing memories,” she shared in the interview.

Experience Your Wedding, Don’t Just Host It

Lipa and Turner can be seen living it up at their own wedding.

It is easy to forget that the couple is also supposed to be part of the celebration. With photographers waiting for the next shot, family members to greet, rituals to follow and a schedule that can leave little room to breathe, weddings can sometimes feel more like an event to manage than a day to experience.

Lipa and Turner’s decision to approach their wedding as guests flips that idea. Instead of obsessing over whether every detail is unfolding perfectly, they gave themselves permission to participate in the occasion. To eat the food they had chosen, enjoy the music, spend time with their guests and take in the setting around them.

It is particularly fitting advice for a couple whose Sicilian celebrations unfolded over three days in Palermo, following their civil ceremony in London. With a destination wedding, a packed guest list and the attention that naturally comes with being one of the world’s most recognisable couples, there was plenty that could have made the occasion feel overwhelming.

Instead, the couple focused on being in it.

Find Each Other In The Crowd

The second piece of advice was even more intimate: keep finding each other.

At a wedding, the couple can spend hours being pulled in different directions. There are parents to greet, friends to catch up with, photographs to take, and guests who have travelled from around the world to celebrate with them. In the middle of it all, it can be surprisingly easy for the couple to barely see each other.

For Lipa and Turner, checking in with one another became a way of staying connected throughout the celebrations. It meant that, despite the big scale of the wedding, they were creating memories together rather than experiencing the day separately.

And perhaps that is the bigger lesson in Lipa’s approach. The magic of a wedding does not necessarily come from getting every detail right. It comes from being present enough to notice it when it happens and actually living it.
