First dates are a cocktail of nerves, hope, and a minefield of unspoken rules. There’s so much to think about, from what you’re wearing to how you’re coming across to your date. While some signs go all-in with flirty banter and big laughs, others play it a little cooler.

But reserved doesn’t mean uninterested. For some zodiac signs, taking things slow is just their way of figuring you out (and protecting their peace). Signs like Gemini and Aries are usually the yappers in the first date equation, unafraid to lay all their cards on the table. But some like to play it close to their chest.

Zodiac Signs That Don’t Open Up Easily On The First Date

Here are a few signs that might seem a little guarded on Date One, but don't be fooled, plenty is going on beneath the surface…

    Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Yes, Cancerians are known for their emotional depth, but first dates are their shell time. Their protective and emotionally intuitive nature comes into play once they’ve determined you’re on the same wavelength as they are. They’ll listen more than they share and might seem a little shy. But make them feel safe, and you’ll soon see their warm, funny, and endlessly loyal side.

    Virgo (August 23- September 22)

Ever met someone who seems composed, curious, and just a little hard to read? That’s likely a Virgo. They’re taking mental notes, not playing games. For them, trust is built, not assumed. You might not get fireworks on date one, but you’ll get thoughtful conversation and a surprisingly sharp sense of humour.

    Scorpio (October 23- November 21)

Scorpios are often misunderstood as intense from the get-go. On a first date, they’re more likely to be watching than talking. They’re private, observant, and deeply intuitive. It’s most likely that they’re letting their weighted silence make you feel comfortable enough to reveal more about yourself. If a Scorpio seems a bit enigmatic at first, they’re probably just deciding whether you’re worth the emotional energy.

    Capricorn (December 22- January 19)

Capricorns treat dating like an interview, but with charm. It’s serious business for them, and idle chatter has no place at the figurative table for them. You can expect a Capricorn to be warm but measured, showing up with polish and purpose. They’re emotionally deep and relationship-oriented, but they tend to save that side of themselves for people they’re totally serious about. Emotional reveals aren’t on the first-date agenda, but if you earn their respect and trust, the slow reveal is totally worth it.

    Aquarius (January 20- February 18)

Aquarius might bring a distant energy to the first date that might seem like they’re disinterested. But that’s just a front they put up to avoid any awkwardness. They're the type to talk about the future of AI over dessert while expertly dodging questions about past relationships or what it was like growing up with a twin. Charming, quirky, but emotionally reserved until they know you’re on the same wavelength.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
