Unless you have been living under a rock, you must have realized that animal print is having a moment right now. From Ashley Graham’s serpent skin dress at the Met Gala this year, to Hailey Bieber’s leopard-print dress at the Oscars after-party, animal print is hot right now. Even the Bollywood girlies are adopting this trend. Celebrities like Khushi Kapoor and Disha Patani were recently seen wearing zebra and leopard print outfits across silhouettes like slip dresses, skirt suits, and sleek gowns. What’s interesting is that the animal print trend is going through a trickle-down effect, wherein the print is also gaining momentum in the world of Indian occasionwear.

This season, amalgamate your saris and lehengas with skin prints of your choice. You can opt for leopard print if you like to keep things classic. Or, you can even go for cowhide or snakeskin print if you’re in the mood for some fun. You can go all out with a monotone animal print look, or keep things balanced by mixing it with solids. Stylist Mallika Kohli suggests adding animal print as an accent. “To me, a leopard-print blouse with a solid sari or a python-print lehenga skirt with a solid blouse feels far more chic than head-to-toe print.” she points out.

Designers Who Are Embracing Animal Print

JJ Valaya’s diffusion line JJV, recently came up with their new collection titled ‘The Fauna Series’, which is a collection dedicated solely to animal prints. It features saris, lehengas, and kaftans across prints like tiger print, zebra print, and even giraffe print!

Ekaya has also named ‘skin prints’ as the hottest trend of the season. Their recent collection features silk saris with prints like leopard, zebra, and cowhide prints. They have taken an interesting approach to animal prints, wherein a bunch of these prints have been fused with colours other than the traditional skin colours. For example, leopard print with a green base as opposed to the traditional brown, and zebra print with a red and gold colour scheme instead of the usual black and white.

Itrh’s recent collection, on the other hand, features snake print, tiger print, and leopard print.

Sabyasachi also hopped onto the animal print bandwagon recently, with beautiful tiger print lehengas.

Siddartha Tytler’s collection ‘Trifecta’ also explored leopard print across outfits for both men and women. Apart from featuring the traditional animal prints, Sid Tytler experimented with textures and colours. One element that stood out in particular, was their use of sheer fabric with leopard print rosettes embroidered in sequins.
