However, if you are a bridesmaid-to-be, you’ve probably been a little apprehensive about getting them because of feeling they may look incompatible with Indian occasion wear. Let us convince you otherwise.
Granted, wearing bangs in any way is no match to a sleek middle-parted bun with a gajra around it, or a long, neatly-done braid adorned with a jada patti (or the traditional jewellery for braids). However, that doesn’t mean there are no ways to style your bangs with Indian occasion wear. Hairstylist Nitin Sankla explains, “When I'm styling people with bangs for Indian occasions, I usually like to keep the bangs light and natural while pairing them with soft waves, a low bun, or a half-up hairstyle. The idea is to make the bangs feel like a part of the overall look rather than a separate element.”
The style of your bangs matters a lot. Indian outfits like saris and lehengas work better with traditional styles like curtain bangs and side-swept bangs, as opposed to styles that are overtly unconventional, like micro-bangs.
As for how you wear them on the big day, avoid taming your bangs. If you go for a sleek, middle parted updo by pushing the bangs behind with lots of gel, it might look fine at first, but the bangs will start coming out of the updo in a couple of hours, making for an unkempt look. The idea is to embrace the bangs and not to tame them. Picking the right hairstyle that flatters your bangs is very important. “A few styles that I personally love are soft Hollywood waves with curtain bangs, textured low buns with face-framing bangs, and half-up hairstyles with blunt bangs.” Nitin points out. “For younger women or those wanting a more fashion-forward look, a sleek ponytail with wispy bangs works beautifully as well.” he adds.
