Earlier this year, jewellery production manager for American label L. Priori Jewelry, Kaitlin Cavallo discussed hot takes regarding engagement rings online, and it became quite a sensation. In the viral video, Cavallo discussed moissanite and diamond as options and explained that the two are different from one another. Moissanite is not a dupe of diamond, so it’s best not to expect it to look the same. "You can see the difference between a diamond and a moissanite," she said. "Don't get a 'moissy' expecting a diamond dupe. They're completely different stones and should be treated as such!" she said in the video.
Aside from the durability, a moissanite also has greater brilliance as it measures higher on the refractive index than a diamond. So, if you’re looking for a bling that you can spot from miles away, then a moissanite is the way to go. But it is also advisable that you check with your jeweller when buying a different hued moissanite, as the colour may not last it has been treated or merely coated with colour. Make sure you know that the gemstone has been grown in the original colour from the beginning. “Moissanite comes in different shapes and sizes. It can be crafted in any choice of metal. Be it brass, silver or gold. It also reflects hints of colour and is more eco-friendly than diamonds,” shares Palak Devpura, owner of Akanni Fine Jewellery.
