Celebrity makeup expert Shradha Luthra outlines the essentials for a practical bridal makeup kit…

Indian weddings are beautiful, yes. But they are also slightly chaotic and unexpectedly emotional. There is always that one wedding moment that no one warns you about….maybe it is your sister who cries on your shoulder a little too generously, or an over-enthusiastic friend who “just wants one quick photo” and smudges your carefully-crafted wing. Ask any bride and she will tell you, it is never the big ceremonies that test your makeup, it is these tiny, oddly-timed moments, and a smart bridal makeup kit is what saves you from these micro-chaos moments.
It also becomes part of a bridal emergency stash, which is packed with everything from long-wear lipsticks to just-in-case products. However, having just the right things and not missing the very elements that hold a look together through long hours is essential.
To understand what separates a truly reliable and practical bridal makeup kit, celebrity makeup artist Shradha Luthra shares how to build a bridal makeup kit that survives your wedding day.

“I genuinely believe a well-planned bridal kit makes such a big difference to how a bride feels through her events,” says Shradha. And her checklist for the bridal makeup kit is surprisingly streamlined!
To start, she insists that skin prep sits at the top of the hierarchy. Brides often become laser-focused on makeup, when the real stability comes from the basics. “Most brides focus on makeup and forget that long hours, climate changes and stress can show up first on the skin. A gentle cleanser, a hydrating mist, a good moisturiser and a nourishing lip treatment are honestly the real heroes.”
Once the base is in place, this will lay a strong foundation for your makeup. Shradha further explains how picking the right products is crucial for a long-lasting makeup on your wedding. “Waterproof kajal and mascara, a budge-proof lip liner, a long-wear lipstick and a reliable setting spray will get you through rituals, heat and even a few happy tears. Layering cream blush with a powder blush also keeps the colour fresh for hours,” she says.
But what elevates a kit from good to fool-proof are the tiny, overlooked additions. These are the pieces brides only remember after they need them. “A tiny scissor, lash glue, blotting papers, cotton buds, a mini perfume, safety pins and hairpins, these sound small but every bride who misses them ends up asking for them later,” adds Shradha.
And finally, Shradha suggests that some brides tend to overprepare, which ironically makes things more chaotic. Shradha sees the same pattern repeat across wedding seasons. “The biggest mistake I see is brides carrying too much. A kit you’ve edited and tested beforehand will always serve you better than a bag full of new products you’re unsure of.”
The final takeaway from Shradha’s expertise is clear, she insists that a bride should have a smart, future-proof bridal kit that is simple and well thought. A bridal makeup kit that is built on comfort, tested essentials and tiny saviours that keep the day moving.
