Say goodbye to breakouts with this expert-approved plan

Every bride wants her skin to look calm, clear, and radiant on her wedding day. According to Dr. Madhuri, dermatologist and founder of Yavana Aesthetics, the real secret is not a last-minute facial but starting early. “Consult a dermatologist three to six months before your big day. When treatments are tailored to your specific skin concerns and started on time, the results are not only gratifying but long-lasting,” she says.

If breakouts are a concern, timing matters. “If you have acne-prone skin, begin treatment with your dermatologist at least three to four months ahead of your wedding. They can prescribe medications and in-clinic procedures to prevent those dreaded last-minute breakouts,” advises Dr. Madhuri.
Alongside medical treatment, small lifestyle changes help significantly. Avoid sugar-laden foods and high glycemic index items, which can trigger inflammation and worsen acne. Instead, focus on whole grains, lean proteins, and vegetables to support clearer skin from within.

Indian skin is naturally prone to pigmentation, which can worsen with sun exposure and lack of sleep. “Sun protection is non-negotiable,” Dr. Madhuri stresses. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and reapply when outdoors. Do not forget body sunscreen, especially if your wedding outfits are low-back or sleeveless. Apply sunscreen carefully around the eye area as well to prevent dark circles from deepening.
Nutrition plays a role here too. A diet rich in beta-carotenes and antioxidants, including colourful fruits, berries, and leafy greens, helps brighten and protect the skin.

Starting early allows room for effective procedures. Dr. Madhuri recommends fruit-based peels and Peau Claire sessions to reduce pigmentation. For body concerns, body peels and lightening sessions can help achieve even-toned skin. “Q-switched lasers and skin boosters provide visible, lasting results that extend well beyond your wedding day,” she adds.
She also suggests incorporating ingredients such as azelaic acid, kojic acid, licorice extract, niacinamide, peptides, and vitamin C under professional guidance.
“Get eight hours of sleep. Your skin repairs overnight,” she reminds. Reduce screen time and never sleep with makeup on. With a structured three-to-six-month plan, bridal glow becomes less about urgency and more about consistent, healthy skin that photographs beautifully and lasts well beyond the wedding day.
Even with a structured plan, the occasional breakout can show up uninvited. Dr. Madhuri suggests keeping a small emergency kit ready, so you are not scrambling days before the wedding.
