Romance in the air, your mind’s in the clouds, and you’re just counting down to D-Day. But alongside, you’re sure to be in planning mode 24x7, too. Those endless calls to designers, caterers, florists and more are the bugbears of everyone’s pre-wedding life. If this is you, it’s time to stop the dread. Figuring out each step need not feel like a full-time job eating into your joy. Instead, get a crisis handler, aka your wedding planner, to ease things.

Of course, finding someone to trust with your big day is akin to finding a magician. They can make the entire process of planning and hosting a wedding a lot smoother, less stressful, and a lot more enjoyable, ultimately bringing your vision to life. But zeroing in on the right person should not just be after liking their Instagram feed. It’s about how they are the right fit for you.

So, before you sign on the dotted line, we’ve got 10 questions you can ask your to-be planner:

Questions To Ask Before Hiring Your Wedding Planner

    1. Have You Planned Weddings Like Ours Before?

Of course, every wedding has its own vibe. But you still have your ideas and likes, whether yours is an intimate destination getaway, a big fat Indian wedding or something completely unconventional. So, ask if they’ve worked on weddings that feel similar to what you’re thinking of. Their experience reflects whether they’ll understand your vision from the word go.

    2. What Exactly Is Included in Your Services?

This is one of those questions you’ll be glad you asked early. While some planners handle every aspect of the celebration - from venue hunting to vendor management and do all the heavy lifting, others prefer to come in later, when you’re closer to the actual date. Asking this question will help you get clarity on what you’re getting from them and what you might have to arrange yourself.

    3. How Many Weddings Are You Managing at the Same Time?

You don’t want to feel like just another name on a spreadsheet. If your wedding falls during a busy season, ask how many events they’re juggling and how they make sure each couple gets enough attention. You want your wedding to feel like yours instead of just an assignment that they had to finish.

    4. How Will You Help Us Stay Within Budget?

Like it or not, wedding budgets have a habit of growing legs and running away, with hidden costs for catering, price increases for perishable flowers and more. A good planner should be able to guide you on where to splurge and where to save, share options, and keep a firm track of expenses without causing you stress.

    5. Do You Have Favourite Vendors You Work With?

Most planners have a trusted network of photographers, decorators, caterers and entertainers. That’s usually a good thing but find out if they’re also open to working with vendors you’ve already shortlisted or have your heart set on. After all, it is your big day, and it should feel as if you have onboarded people who understand your vision.

    6. What Happens If Something Goes Wrong?

Because at weddings, something almost always does. It could be a vendor running late, the weather suddenly deciding to be dramatic or an outfit mishap. Ask the wedding planners how they handle such unexpected situations and what backup plans they typically put in place for it, which will assure you that your wedding day is in good hands.

    7. Who Will Actually Be Managing Our Wedding?

Sometimes the person you meet during the consultation isn’t the person you’ll be working with throughout the planning process. Find out who your main point of contact will be and who will be on the ground during your wedding celebrations.

    8. How Often Will We Be in Touch?

Some couples love weekly updates. Others prefer checking in only when needed. Have a conversation about communication styles, response times and how often you can expect updates so everyone’s on the same page.

    9. Can We Hear From Past Clients?

A planner’s portfolio can show beautiful weddings. Past clients can tell you what it was actually like working with them. Reviews, testimonials and referrals often give you the most honest picture of what to expect, so ask if you can speak to a couple they have worked with earlier.

    10. Why Do You Think We’d Work Well Together?

This might be the most important question of all. You’ll be spending months planning one of the biggest days of your life together. Beyond experience and credentials, you want someone you genuinely enjoy talking to, someone who gets you and whom you trust completely.
