What Made The Kardashians Agree To Come To The Ambani Wedding?

Never discount the power of a well-designed invite!

One of the most fascinating things about Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding back in July 2024 (and there were many!) was the outrageously random guest list. We had John Cena casually chilling with the baraat, and then there were the Kardashians.

Kim and Khloe Kardashian flew down for the wedding.

Kim and Khloe Kardashian gave a glimpse into their experience at the Ambani wedding on a recent episode of 'The Kardashians'Instagram/Kim Kardashian

Videos of the two interacting with the Ambani family and the guests became meme fodder for days to follow, and their custom designer ensembles invited both admiration and criticism (all in a day’s work for the Internet). But one question persisted long after the memes and the trolling: What inspired this crossover? As it turns out, it all started because of the meticulously designed wedding invite!

The latest episode of The Kardashians gave a glimpse into Kim and Khloe’s 48-hour long adventure in India where they experienced a cultural shock upon realising Indian streets are not like that of Alladin’s and attended the Ambani extravaganza.

On the outset, Kim candidly stated that she “actually don’t know the Ambanis” but amended that by adding, “We definitely have friends in common.”

One of said common friends was renowned jewellery designer Lorraine Schwartz. “Lorraine Schwartz is one of our good friends. She is a jeweller. She does jewellery for the Ambani family. She told me she was going to their wedding and they would love to invite you and we just went on a whim and said ‘sure’.”

The mutual connection earned the Kardashians a place on the Ambani’s much-talked-about guest list and made them recipients of their elaborate wedding invite.

ICYMI, Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding invite was in the form of a grand wooden lacquer box, weighing around 18-22 kg and designed to resemble the grand doors of a temple. A brainchild of luxury invitation design house The Entertainment Design Co, the wedding invite played devotional music upon opening and was illuminated using soft diyas. The invitation box held idols of several Hindu Gods and Goddesses and other well-thought-out gifts.

“It was crazy! When we saw the invitation, we were like, you don’t say no to something like this,” said Khloe in the episode.

There you have it! Take it from the Kardashians and pay special attention to your wedding invites. It’s the first glimpse into your wedding’s essence, after all!

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
