From Instagram DMs To Riverside Pheras: Urvi Gauri & Anubhav Arora’s Love Story Feels Straight Out Of A Film

What began with a brief meeting at a mutual friend’s birthday and a tattoo-related Instagram reply slowly turned into a love story built on comfort, contrasts and companionship for Urvi Gauri and Anubhav Arora.

A romance for the big screen!

There is something so unexplainably soft in finding love when you’re least expecting it. The suddenness of the realisation that you love someone who you’ve known for a while makes it every bit as romantic and cinematic as it can get. And this is what happened with Urvi Gauri & Anubhav Arora. The couple had first crossed paths in 2018 and what had initially begun as a brief conversation and an Instagram change at a mutual friend’s birthday, soon turned into something rather deeper.

Their love story officially began in April 2019 when Anubhav replied to one of Urvi’s Instagram stories asking about her tattoos. That conversation led to exchanging numbers and constant texting. “There was an instant spark between us, and after a couple of failed attempts, our first date finally happened—and turned into many more.”

On their first date, Urvi spoke about books she had read and planned to read, while Anubhav tried to keep up and impress her. “Despite our differences, we realised we didn’t have to be the same—this contrast became the foundation of our bond,” the couple revealed.

Realising that a person is the one for you is not an intense process, but rather a quiet moment that changes things forever. For Urvi, it was the instant sense of familiarity and comfort she felt when they first met. Over time, his quiet ambition and gentle nature made her fall even more in love. For Anubhav, it was discovering her depth, confidence, and personality beyond her cuteness.

A relationship has a lot of moments that stay with the couple throughout their life together but there is always that one memory from their early days together that the two will always treasure. For Urvi and Anubhav, their early days were marked by constant conversations and a strong connection, even as they transitioned into a long-distance relationship that lasted nearly two years—something that ultimately strengthened their bond.

Their proposal wasn’t something that came as a surprise; instead, it became a moment that made their union even more special. Their proposal wasn’t the beginning of their married life, but rather a milestone to mark a new beginning since the two had already gotten married. “Though we had already discussed marriage and their families had met, Anubhav still wanted to make the proposal special,” Urvi shared. “After two cancelled plans (very “Urvi” of her), we finally made it to Phuket, where I proposed. Despite already being engaged, I felt the same nervousness as when we first met—even hesitating in the moment. Urvi was genuinely surprised and happily said yes. We then spent hours quietly sitting together on a boat, holding hands,” Anubhav continued.

Talking about their relationship dynamic, the couple revealed that they are opposites who balance each other beautifully. “Urvi brings emotional depth, while I bring lightness and humour. Our shared values and similar upbringing keep us grounded, and our long-distance journey has only strengthened our love.”

Their vision for their wedding was a mix of experiences—from a glamorous cocktail celebration to an intimate and serene destination wedding.

A wedding is a very personal event that often reflects who a couple really is. But every wedding has a little part of it that is inspired by an aesthetic or an idea that a couple really liked. For Urvi and Anubhav, the natural beauty of their Goa venue played a major role. The serene riverside setting and lush surroundings influenced the soft, pastel, and intimate aesthetic of the wedding.

While their venue had a big role in deciding their wedding aesthetic, a question that lingers is how they chose their venue. “Trident, Gurgaon, was chosen due to family sentiment—Urvi’s father’s admiration for the Oberoi Group and her sister’s wedding was held there back in 2019. Goa was an unexpected but perfect choice discovered by me. The charm and peaceful vibe of Mercure Devaaya Resort made it ideal for an intimate destination wedding,” Anubhav added.

Talking about their outfits, Urvi revealed, “For me, it was fairly simple. My sister and brother-in-law are designers, so I naturally leaned on them. I’ve always been drawn to a minimal yet classy aesthetic, very much a 'less is more' approach, and that became the inspiration behind my outfits from House of Ta-Ya and ROQA. Anubhav was also quite clear about what he wanted, which made the process easier for him as well.”

When asked if there was a particular ceremony or function that was especially meaningful to them, the couple shared that the wedding ceremony stood out the most, especially the riverside pheras. The calm, picturesque setting made the moment feel dream-like and deeply meaningful.

There weren’t any unique traditions that the couple included in the wedding. They said, “Not particularly beyond the usual. We had an intimate Hindu wedding ceremony and followed all the traditional rituals that come with it.”

Every wedding has its own fun surprises that couples often cherish in the later parts of their marriage. For Urvi and Anubhav, the proposal itself had its share of surprises. “Especially with multiple cancelled plans before it finally happened in Phuket, making the final moment even more special,” the couple shared.

The couple, pondering if there were any behind-the-scenes moments that only they knew about, revealed that Anubhav had gotten nervous and had almost backed out during their proposal, making it one of the moments only they truly experienced—captured subtly in their videos.

When asked if there was anything they would have done differently, Urvi shared, “I think I would have tried to take a little less stress and not approached it so much like a business project, I would have just allowed myself to enjoy the process more.”

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.
