How Dympna and Vikrant Turned Their Chance Meeting Into a Wedding Rooted in Love and Tradition
What started as an effortless introduction through a mutual friend slowly turned into a love story built on warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.
Some connections just do not need the force of external factors; they just happen. Imagine two people meeting on a random Tuesday, and everything just falls in place like it was always just this moment that the universe was waiting to introduce you to each other, and now that you have, things are right where they are supposed to be. Like the ‘right person at the right time’ theory was made just for you. This is what happened with Dympna and Vikrant. The couple had met quite organically. “We met through a mutual friend while visiting cousins about 3.5 years ago. It wasn’t anything planned or dramatic, just one of those effortless introductions that slowly turned into something much more meaningful.”
One of the very special moments of a love story is when the two people realise that they are each other’s ‘the one.’ The person they want to spend their life with. And for Dympna, it was a gradual realisation. “It started with small things like how he would make me feel so comfortable on our dates, to the big picture, about how much we value our families. In the middle of chasing down the newest opened bars and restaurants in Bangalore, clarity grew. The way he listened and supported me, I felt understood. Each date became more effortless, full of warmth and laughter; eventually, I knew I had found the one.”
Vikrant shares one memory from their early days that has stayed with them ever since, one that they both treasure. “It is from that recovery period after my knee surgery. Being confined to bed for weeks could have been incredibly difficult, but having Dympna show up every day, offering comfort and companionship, turned it into a time we now look back on with a lot of warmth. It was simple, but it meant everything.”
Talking about how their proposal happened, Vikrant shares, “The proposal took place on April 19, 2025, in Bangalore and was designed as an intimate, private moment. While our families had already met beforehand and the wedding date was fixed, Dympna was a little upset with me for not planning a proposal, something she had always wanted. That’s what led me to put this together as a surprise. I planned a poolside dinner at The Oberoi Bengaluru, with a custom-curated menu, champagne, flowers, and a cake, along with a personal photographer discreetly capturing the evening.”
What made their proposal even more special was the ring, which was designed by their close friend, adding a deeply personal touch to the entire experience.
From the very beginning, the couple knew they wanted a big, vibrant Indian wedding, something rooted in tradition and culture but also filled with energy and emotion. “It was important for us to celebrate every ritual meaningfully, from the haldi to the wedding day ceremonies, while also creating moments that felt intimate and personal.”
The couple recounts what influenced their wedding style and shared, “ Each of our events had its own unique style.”
The general idea for their wedding was to have clean colour palettes and elegant decor. The haldi had a vibrant yellow theme while the mehendi was inspired by warm sunset hues, with the use of flowing organza to create a breezy, whimsical feel. The sangeet featured silver disco ball tones with an enchanting moss garden. “For the muhurtham, we incorporated rich red florals to reflect the significance of sindoor and used cane elements as a sustainable material to create an organic, flowing look that complemented the natural beauty of the Taj West End gardens around us. The reception was styled in a regal shade of purple to create a grand, elegant finish.”
Choosing one’s wedding venue becomes an integral part of the entire wedding planning process since it makes or breaks the entire vibe. And for Dympna and Vikrant, it was the same. “We chose our venues in Bangalore based on both practicality and atmosphere. The JW Marriott and Conrad worked perfectly for the pre-wedding functions because of their central locations and expansive ballrooms, which allowed us to host larger gatherings comfortably.” They further added that for the wedding ceremony, Taj West End stood out to them almost immediately. Its lush gardens and heritage charm made it feel like a serene resort in the middle of the city, which aligned perfectly with the kind of setting they wanted.
Their outfits reflected every bit of themselves and their personality. And so for the muhurtham, Dympna wanted to stay true to her Telugu roots, where brides typically wear a cream or off-white Kanjivaram silk saree. She shares, “I searched across Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore before finally finding the perfect one in Chennai—a cream saree with baby pink floral motifs and woven elephants and peacocks. It beautifully balances tradition with the softer, more modern aesthetic I love. The saree was custom-woven with the inscription “Dympna ❤️ Vikrant” on the pallu, which made it extra special. I then took it to Anamika Khanna, who elevated it further with pearl work and rose gold embroidery, paired with a rich baby pink blouse to complete the look. It was everything I had imagined and more!”
A wedding is a special moment in a couple’s lives, but there is always that one particular ceremony or function that stands out and is especially meaningful to them. For Dympna and Vikrant, they share, “The haldi ceremony was especially meaningful to me as it was held at our home, which made it feel very intimate and personal. Having all our family come together for the first wedding event created such a warm, special energy that set the tone for everything that followed. It was filled with joyful moments—from the playful haldi application where our cousins didn’t hold back, to the mangal snanam and an impromptu dandiya dance that got everyone involved. We ended the day on a perfect note with a hearty elle oota from Rameshwaram Cafe, making it a truly memorable start to the celebrations.”
The couple states that their wedding was curated to perfectly reflect both of their roots. “I’m Telugu and Vikrant is Punjabi-Malayali so it became a meaningful blend of traditions. The celebrations began with Vikrant’s guests participating in the Punjabi custom of tying saafas followed by vibrant Kavadi dancers from Kerala invoking Lord Kartikeya’s blessings, leading into a lively baraat procession.” They highlight that the ceremony itself brought together their cultures seamlessly from the Telugu ritual of jeerige bella, symbolising the sweet and spicy balance of marriage, to the Punjabi pheras around the holy fire. “We then completed the Telugu tradition of saptapadi—taking the seven vows that mark our journey together.”
