Janhvi Kapoor Wore a Sari With A Brooch And We See This Trend Growing

It spells elegance and charm and we’re asking: Why wear your brooch with a shirt or jacket only?

She’s got a love for saris and doesn’t shy away from getting innovative with it. This time around too, Janhvi Kapoor grabbed the buzz when she wore a beautiful ivory sari by Anamika Khanna. The drape featured super intricate embroidery, a beautifully textured blouse, and a matching lace border. She paired the look with a huge pair of jhumkas, a bracelet, and a cocktail ring, all with a pop of green. The outfit looked ethereal and straight out of a Yashraj movie!

While we absolutely love the soft and dreamy visual aesthetic, what really caught our eye is how she chose to team a beautiful brooch with the sari. Just this one little detail made the outfit super chic and gave it an interesting vibe. We have also seen Sushmita Sen sport the sari-with-brooch trend multiple times in the past, although she had chosen to pin it to her pallu.

If you’re already chalking up plans to go different with your drape, take inspiration from Janhvi and pair your sari with a brooch. Just ensure you opt for a sari that lets the brooch have its moment, so ideally don a plain sari. So, if it’s an embroidered one, make sure it's tone-on-tone embroidery, so the colours don’t overpower the brooch.

The trend presents a number of styles. Wear the brooch close to the waistband just like Janhvi has. Or, you can secure the pleats of your sari with the brooch. You can even wear it like how a brooch is worn traditionally—in this case, on your pallu, where the lapel would have been.

Or you can take a cue from Alia Bhatt’s Tarun Tahiliani look at the Cannes Film Festival this year and wear two brooches on the blouse of your sari.

Another great way to wear a brooch with your sari is by wearing it at the back of your blouse. Remember the huge sarpech that Isha Amabani wore at the back of her blouse at the Met Gala this year? You can do that with a brooch this wedding season!

Ready to hop onto the sari-with-brooch bandwagon this season?

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
