Not that we’re complaining!

Ask any woman, and she’ll tell you how important mascara is for a good make up look. For decades, mascara has practically been the main character. Even on days when people skipped the foundation, blush, and even lipstick, they could count on a generous coat of mascara to make them look alive. Even when the Gen Z collectively decided to bid adieu to the eye liner during their no-makeup era, the mascara survived. Makeup trends have come and gone, but the mascara stood the test of time…that is until now. With celebrities like Gigi Hadid and Gracie Abrams going mascara-free, the no-mascara trend is hot right now.

People are embracing bare lashes, and it stems from the fact that beauty is in its effortless era. Instead of spending hours perfecting every detail, people are embracing makeup that feels easy and relaxed. Think about it: smudged eye liner is trending over sharp winged eyeliner, bare nails are having a moment…Similarly, people are ditching the mascara for bare lashes.

But don’t think that this is just an everyday-trend. Just because we’re skipping mascara doesn’t mean we’re keeping it boring. You can even try the bare lashes trend for weddings. Simply pair your natural lashes with a bold lip colour or a fun eyeshadow, or even a cool graphic eyeliner. Take a cue from Hunter Schafer, and wear your natural eyelashes with the eyeshadow colour of the season—blue

Make-up artist and hairstylist Nandini Arora stresses on the importance of lash prep when going mascara-free. “The most important tip for going mascara-free, especially for weddings and celebrations is the prep leading up to it. Lash serums and DIY options like castor or vitamin E oil can be used for lash growth. Clear mascaras or petroleum jelly like Vaseline can be good substitutes to make your lashes look more pronounced.” she adds.

The bare lashes trend is simple, chic, and absolutely beautiful! Not to forget, incredibly fuss-free! Make-up artist and hair stylist Riya Saluja echoes this sentiment. “The shift towards going mascara-free also has to do with convenience. When you come back home from a long day of work or from an event, the last thing you want to do is struggle to remove your mascara. Let’s be real, mascaras are really hard to take off.” Riya adds.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
