Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum

Easily one of the most watched and successful Pakistani TV shows of the year, Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum marked the comeback of Fahad Mustafa as an actor on the small screen. The actor stars opposite Hania Aamir in the show. The story follows a couple, Sharjeena and Mustafa, who couldn’t be more opposite to each other. The two come together because of adverse circumstances and find out that two imperfect pieces can complete each other beautifully.

Gentleman

This drama, starring Yumna Zaidi and Humayun Saeed, was appreciated for its compelling storyline, memorable dialogues and the complex love story that forms the heart of the drama. The story is about street gangster Munna who falls in love with journalist Zarnab. Can the two come together and defy all odds that are pulling them apart? You’ll have to watch it to find out!

Jaan-e-Jaan

Another fan-favourite who made a comeback to PTV this year was Hamza Ali Abbasi with Jaan-e-Jahaan. The actor’s portrayal of Shahreem was praised for the complexities he brought onscreen and the chemistry he shared with his co-star Ayeza Khan. The story follows the love story between Shehraam, who struggles with the demands from his father to lead the family business, and Mahnoor, a middle-class girl who isn't afraid to stand up for what is right.

When the son of a corrupt politician falls in love with a girl who is fighting against the system his family upholds, he has to find a way to get to know her better without his family’s legacy clouding her opinion. Bilal Abbas Khan stars alongside Dur-e-Fishan Saleem in this romantic comedy-drama.

Zard Patton Ka Bunn

Unlike most of the other dramas on the list, the love story is not central to the themes of this one. However, Sajal Aly and Hamza Sohail’s beautiful portrayal of characters who find themselves drawn together as they try to escape their circumstances forms the heart of the show. The character development and well-constructed narrative make this one of the most engaging shows of the year.

Duniyapur

This ongoing drama is one of the most expensive TV shows to be produced in the country. The high production value and superb performances by the ensemble cast make this Mirzapur meets Romeo and Juliet story immensely watchable. The story follows two rival factions in the titular Duniyapur. When circumstances force the leaders' children, Shahmir and Ana, to take over the clans, sparks fly and romance starts to blossom. Can they both leave behind the blood-soaked legacy of Duniyapur and start anew? Or will they succumb to years of violence and carry on the rivalry started by their parents?
