…all thanks to the new royal biography!

Weddings are seldom without drama and chaos. The stress and pressure of planning a wedding can get to the best of us, and the British royal family is not immune.
In the years since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding in 2018, rumours about a massive fight, complete with name-calling and tears, have surfaced. According to reports, it all started because of Princess Charlotte’s ill-fitting flower girl dress.

While initial reports had suggested that Meghan had made Kate cry over the issue, the Suits actress claimed the opposite was true. In her explosive 2021 interview with Oprah, Meghan shared that it was Kate who had made her cry. “And I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding,” she said, “And she was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised. And she brought me flowers and a note, apologising. And she did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone, right, to just take accountability for it.”
In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry goes into more detail about what happened in the run-up to the wedding, regarding the flower girls’ dresses. In the book, he wrote that Kate had called Meghan days before the wedding to say Princess "Charlotte's dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on at home.” According to Prince Harry, Meghan had replied saying, "Right, and I told you the tailor has been standing by since 8 a.m. Here. At KP (Kensington Palace). Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other moms are doing?”.

Following this, Kate had insisted that all the Givenchy dresses be remade, causing Meghan to break down as the wedding was just four days away. He, however, notes that “Emotions were running high, of course, after the stress of the last week, the last month, the last day. It was intolerable—but temporary. Kate hadn't meant any harm, I told her.” He later describes how Kate and Meghan met and discussed it later.
In 2023, luxury dressmaker Ajay Mirpuri revealed to Daily Mail that all six of the flower girls’ dresses had issues with their fitting. He and his team of three had to work around the clock at Kensington Palace and Windsor Castle for four days to fix the dresses.
A new royal biography, however, has offered a new perspective on the whole issue. In royal expert Tom Quinn’s Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life Of Royal Servants, an anonymous royal staffer says, “I can tell you that all the papers and commentators got this wrong, the truth is that as with many of these spats between sisters, brothers or even sisters-in-law, both sides were really upset.”

They went on to add, “The truth is that during the discussions about the bridesmaid's dress, Meghan said a few things she regretted and Kate said a few things she later regretted, but it was all in the heat of the moment," the royal staffer explained. "Both women were crying their eyes out!”
Neither Kate nor Meghan has commented on the new book’s revelation about their fight. What can be taken away from the whole pre-wedding drama is: Always build in some time in your wedding planning schedule for fittings as close to the D-Day as possible and don’t lose sight of the reason behind the big celebration in the chaos of it all!
