Prateek Babbar and Priya Banerjee’s wedding wasn’t much of a star-studded affair. A quiet ceremony with a small guest list, the wedding was a special one for all the right reasons. From placing a black and white portrait of hers at the mandap surrounded by fresh marigolds to Priya wearing a Mangalsutra that, according to Filmfare, was made from Smita’s earrings, the couple had paid a quiet homage to Prateek’s late mother throughout their wedding ceremonies.

The couple’s choices for their weddings were not just a spin on tradition, but also heartfelt and emotionally connected to them. While the groom ditching the traditional menswear and opting for an exquisite Tarun Tahiliani outfit might seem like a modern element added to the wedding. It wasn’t the only twist they brought to their wedding ceremonies. The couple had chosen multiple ways to honour the actor’s late mother and to keep her mother alive throughout the wedding, and choosing her house for their nuptials was one such act that was nothing short of a heartwarming gesture.

During an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, the couple shared that they had explored various locations for their private wedding before they zeroed in to late actor Smita Patil’s house. Priya Banerjee noted that for her, getting married at home was a priority and that she had warned Prateik that the marriage was off if he wanted a big wedding. Prateik recalled that they decided to get married at his ancestral place when one night Priya dreamt of his late mother.

“Priya is forgetting the main things. She had a dream about my mother, and my mother said You'd better get married in this house. '” he jumped in with his version of how they came up with the idea of getting married at his mother’s place, but Priya corrected him, stating that it wasn’t that.

It’s nothing. You know how dreams are very odd. You don’t understand. I had a moment where I was like it should be done in this house, and that’s it. It was in a dream, yes, but dreams are very odd, and you have to make of it what it means to you."

The couple shared that it was that dream that stayed with them, and with time, Priya grew to feel a stronger connection to the house and believed that they should get married there. For them, it wasn’t just an honour to their mother but to feel her presence during the biggest and the happiest moments of their life.

“I knew this house was meant for him and his mother. She wanted to live her life with him in that house. So, I thought this was her dream—this house. She’s not here with us, but if we do it here, at least we feel that she’s with us. It just felt like she was around. And all the 42 people present at the wedding mentioned that they felt her around," Priya shared as Prateik called it his full circle moment.

The house was not just his ancestral property but a memory of his late mother, and that made him feel closer to her and therefore meant the most for the couple as they decided to tie the knot with her blessings.
