Love met legacy when Aashna Hegde tied the knot with her long-time partner, Aditya Kumar, in a heartfelt wedding at a resort in Jim Corbett. Their wedding, a celebration of two culturally rich worlds, was an intimate ceremony that honoured both South Indian and North Indian traditions with thoughtful details like the temple-inspired aesthetics, traditional draping and North Indian pheras. Their wedding was all about capturing not just the style but the sentiment, heritage and the emotion of a contemporary union.

While talking to Manifest, the couple revealed that the first time they met each other was through common friends. “Addy actually ended up being their roommate, and that’s how we started hanging out every day! We became really good friends over 2 years, and then the rest is history!” Aashna revealed.

“One of my favourite qualities about Addy is how fearless he is when it comes to taking risks. He’s someone who’s not caught up in the idea of “what if”,” Aashna blushed as she shared the one thing that she really liked about Aditya. “He wants to take the chance & see for himself if it works out or not. As someone who holds back because of the fear of failing, I really admire that about him.”

While Aditya shared, “I like everything about her, but if I had to choose just one, it would be how deeply she cares for everyone around her and is so loving and welcoming. That’s exactly how she made me feel.”

While falling in love and staying in it is a team effort, so is planning a wedding. The couple pondered how they planned their wedding together and shared, “We both knew what aspects we could look after, so we could divide our roles pretty easily!”

Aashna stated, “Addy looked after all the logistics like hospitality, travel arrangements, the bar, and entertainment. I looked after all the creative aspects like invitations, decor, detailing & our outfits. It helped having our areas, but were both still very much in sync with what decisions we’re making.”

Everything about a wedding is incredibly special to the couple getting married, but there is always that one moment that stays with the newlyweds forever, and for Aashna and Aditya, it was hearing about how much fun everyone had at their wedding. “One of our top goals was to have an intimate wedding to make sure we’re surrounded by our loved ones & they have a good time. So, it’s been great to hear that everyone thought it was well planned & smooth, they all had a blast!”

As the newlyweds now step into the next chapter of their lives, they share how they imagine their life with their partner. Aditya revealed, “I imagine a life with her where we travel the world together, build a family, and create a home filled with love, laughter, and good food.” While Aashna said, “We’ve always dreamed of building a sweet and cosy life for ourselves. Since childhood, more than getting married, I’ve been dreaming of having a home with someone I love. So I’m thrilled that we’re now in that chapter, we get to spend a lot of time together, make new memories, cook each other yummy food, host our loved ones at our home, build a new routine as a married couple, try out new hobbies and go on new adventures together! Because honestly, we just enjoy each other’s company a lot!”

Lastly, the best part about weddings is the moments that are captured on someone’s lens that the couple and their families can watch and re-live later and for Aashna and Aditya, their vision for their wedding photographs was clear. “I wanted the pictures to have a candid yet editorial feel to them! Since that’s the style I like, we went for some cool portraits for all our outfits & once that was done, it was less posing & more of just what’s happening in the moment,” Aashna shared.

Their wedding was every bit a fashion narrative that ran through the celebrations as Aashna wore a custom handwoven Kanjivaram saree by Jigar Mali - a dhoop-chaau masterpiece that shifts in tone with light for her South Indian ceremony. The heirloom carries deep emotional significance, delicately embroidered with the names of the women who shaped her — her nani, masi, mother, and sisters - with a space left open, thoughtfully reserved for the generations to come.

For the Mehendi, she embraced bold modernity in Anushka Khanna with a striking, fully mirrored red ensemble, inspired by Alia Bhatt, while for the Punjabi wedding, she wore a custom-made Rimple & Harpreet. For the cocktail celebration, the bride slipped into Label Ankita Jain with a pristine, white silhouette exuding a dreamy ‘church-wedding’ aesthetic, elevated with bridal silk, lace, crystallised detailing, and a chic short face veil.

Each of her looks was curated by Dolla Baruah, ensuring seamless creative direction across ceremonies, while Shraddha Luthra helmed the bridal beauty with an exclusive touch.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
