It’s that time of the year again. The first Monday in May is almost here, and as we prepare ourselves for some serious fashion moments, here's looking back at all the times Indian couture was in the spotlight at the Met Gala over the years.

9 Times Indian Couture Was Seen At The Met Gala Red Carpet Over The Years

    Alia Bhatt in Sabyasachi, 2024

The theme for the Met Gala 2024 was “The Garden Of Time”, and Alia’s interpretation of the theme came in the form of a beautiful Sabyasachi sari, drenched in flowers. Her sheer pastel sari had a long train, and was embroidered in sequins, beads, and semi-precious stones. While we love to see any look by an Indian designer on an international platform, it's way cooler if it’s a sari!

    Natasha Poonawalla in Sabyasachi, 2022

Alia isn’t the only one to wear a sari at the Met—Natasha Poonawalla wore it two years before her, with a much more avant-garde approach to the classic garment. She opted for a custom Sabysachi sari in gold, and paired it with a matching bustier from Schiaparelli. Not only did she spotlight an iconic Indian designer on a global platform, but paired it with another iconic fashion house, which, in our humble opinion, was a moment in time.

Natasha Poonawalla in Manish Malhotra, 2025

Speaking of Natasha creating waves at the Met Gala, her appearance at the Met Gala 2025 gave us another great look, especially for lovers of Indian craftsmanship. Her custom Manish Malhotra look, had an embroidered purple fishtail skirt made with two vintage Parsi Gara saris, a Parsi Gara embroidered cummerbund, and a lace bralette with scalloped strings of pearls, and a Parsi Gara embroidered jacket with a long train. Not only was it an absolutely stunning look from an Indian designer, but it also put on a global platform the dying craft of the Parsi Gara, which is noteworthy.

Shah Rukh Khan in Sabyasachi, 2025

When SRK made his much-anticipated debut at the Met Gala in 2025, it divided opinion, to say the least. He channeled his inner Black Dandy (the theme that year) in a black monotone Sabyasachi outfit. While some felt that it was sharp and sophisticated, others found it underwhelming. No matter which side you stand on, it’s hard to deny that SRK at the Met Gala in Sabyasachi is a moment in itself.

Isha Ambani in Anamika Khanna, 2025

Staying on theme? Check. Exquisite jewels? Check. Looking impeccable? Double check! For the Met Gala 2025 with the theme 'Black Dandy', Isha Ambani chose this beautiful Anamika Khanna outfit. While Anamika Khanna has had some incredible fashion moments on international red carpets (courtesy Sonam Kapoor), this look still felt like an important Met Gala moment.

    Kiara Advani in Gaurav Gupta

Kiara Advani was expecting her first child when she made her debut at the Met Gala in 2025. Leaning into it, she wore a black gown with a gold heart-shaped breastplate, which was connected with a smaller heart-shaped breastplate through a chain. This carried a deeper symbolism. The smaller heart represented the baby heart, and the bigger heart represented the mommy heart. Talk about making a red carpet moment personal!

Mindy Kaling in Gaurav Gupta, 2024

Sure, it feels great to see an Indian celebrity wearing an Indian designer at the Met Gala. But when a global celebrity does it, it's an even bigger matter of pride. Case in point: Mindy Kaling at the 2024 Met Gala in this beautiful champagne Gaurav Gupta look.

    Sudha Reddy, Tarun Tahiliani, 2024

The painting-esque detail on the corset? Consider us obsessed!

Isha Ambani in Rahul Mishra, 2024

While this beautiful Rahul Mishra look on Isha Ambani, originally created for the Met Gala, might not have made it to the Met red carpet, it remains one of the most stunning Indian looks nonetheless. Flower galore all the way!

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
