These Northeast Indian Designers Should Be On Your Radar as a Minimalist Bride and Groom

The bridal fashion landscape of India is getting broader as the years go by, as we have seen the emergence of diverse variety of designers from different parts of the country showcasing their art and culture, A new wave of talent is emerging into mainstream fashion, specially from the Northeast India. Like Daniel Syiem who has showcased its Ryndia collection at various prominent fashion weeks, including London Fashion Week, and other international events. The designer is known for its sustainable approach, focusing on the traditional Ryndia Fabric, handwoven by indigenous artisans of the Khasi community in Meghalaya. These designers are not only celebrating their roots but are also redefining what bridal fashion means in the modern age, fusing culturally rich designs with a contemporary touch.

Yana Ngoba Chakpu, a designer from Arunachal Pradesh, combines traditional tribal motifs and fabrics with modern silhouettes, making bridalwear in touch with culture yet up-to-date, using the traditional Arunachali weaving style in silk fabrics, she’s also known to host the second Northeast India Fashion Week. Another designer from northeast is Nandini Baruva from Assam. She works on Assamese silk specially the regal Muga to create traditional lehngas and  Mekhela Chador a traditional Assamese sari.

Northeastern designers are stepping up in the game confidently bringing heritage and creativity for the Indian bridal fashion.

Sanjukta Dutta

Her signature is Mekhela Chador designs, a traditional Assamese attire. She loves experimenting with different vibrant colours and designs. She was the first Assamese woman designer to showcase her collection at the Lakme Fashion Week  2018 to 2022 consecutively in Mumbai . Her studio is based in Guwahati, Assam established in 2012.

Daniel Syiem

Daniel Syiem is one of the pioneer designers from Meghalaya who uses Eri silk (Ryndia) fabric to create clothes. He launched Daniel Syiem's Ethnic Fashion House (DSEFH) in 2011 to promote Ryndia. Ryndia is a dense and fine silk, commonly woven by weavers in Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya. Syiem is popular for designing white wedding gowns in the Northeast.

Atsu Sekhose

The designer is primarily known for his chic and feminine clothings .The label is known for its modern silhouettes, breathtaking embroideries and extraordinary color sensibility. The label stands for understated elegance. Colours and aesthetic comes a lot from the designer roots, Nagaland. He is Based out of Delhi.

Bambi Kevichüsa

A celebrated fashion designer from Nagaland, renowned for her exquisite bridal wear and innovative use of traditional Naga weaves and natural fabrics. She designs beautiful wedding gowns, her studio is based out in Dimapur, Nagaland.

Lusano Zakiesato

She is a designer based out of Nagaland, known to use traditional Naga fabrics in saris. She started her label in 2014 and had her first International show in Abu Dhabi in 2016. She loves to experiment with colours and patterns. Lusano is also popular for designing kaftans and capes.
