Adjusting to a new life after marriage is hard on everyone, but we have to imagine it’s particularly hard if you’re someone who has to adjust to being a part of the royal family and have the eyes of thousands (and sometimes millions) on you at all times. A recently surfaced note by Princess Diana confirms the latter in her own words.
Two days after her grand wedding with future King Charles on July 29, 1981, Princess Diana brought out her royal stationery to pen down a heartfelt note to Mark Simpson, a former footman at the palace. In the handwritten note, Diana reveals her struggles in adjusting to her new life as a royal post-wedding. The note is a part of an upcoming auction, titled ‘Princess Diana’s Style & A Royal Collection’.

"Dear Mark, I just wanted to thank you for all your kindness + patience you've showed towards me since I moved in to B.P.," reads the note. "My stay was made so much easier by your company as it was so terribly lonely + we had so many laughs for that I can't thank you enough. Do hope you were able to enjoy Wednesday + that you liked my dress? I'm off to Britainia tomorrow, what with all those men around. I will have to keep/ a watchful eye on Evelyn! The bad news is that I haven't eaten any cereal- sob. How am I going to cope without my bowls of cereal....(smiley face) A large thank you for being you- much love. Diana.”
The sale, which is being held on June 26, is being hosted by Julien’s Auctions at The Peninsula Beverly Hills.
Along with the post-wedding note, there are over 300 historic pieces featured in the auction. These include signed portraits and holiday cards, some of Diana’s iconic outfits and accessories, and rare pieces of royal memorabilia.
