The first Monday in May is almost here, and as we brace ourselves for some serious fashion, here’s looking back at some of the most iconic jewellery moments from the Met over the years.

Princess Diana, 1996
Not that Lady Di ever does anything that isn't iconic, but her Met Gala look was a moment in time. When Princess Diana made her first (and only) appearance at the Met Gala, the look had a lot of qualities that she symbolised: beauty, elegance, and lots of rebellion! While a seemingly lingerie-inspired dress might not have been deemed appropriate with someone of royal stature, Princess Diana didn't care. The revenge dress might not be her only rebellious look, after all!
The theme for the Met Gala 1996 was centered around Dior, and she wore this navy slip dress designed by John Galliano for Dior. She paired it with a seven-strand pearl choker with a diamond and sapphire brooch. The necklace also happened to go with her sapphire engagement ring. While this necklace might seem like just a beautiful jewellery piece, this is the same necklace that she wore with her "revenge dress" later.
Isha Ambani, 2025
Isha Ambani wore an absolutely stunning custom Anamika Khanna look for the Met Gala 2025. The embroidered waistcoat, jacket and pants looked beautiful, but the most noteworthy thing about the look was her necklace. She wore a beautiful diamond necklace from her mother's personal jewellery collection. And not just any necklace, but a reimagination of the iconic Cartier Toussaint necklace, the Cartier piece designed for the Maharaja of Nawanagar in 1931.
The same necklace which was reimagined by Cartier to be worn by Anne Hathaway in the movie Ocean's Eight. It's one thing thing to be wearing exquisite jewellery pieces, but it's a totally different thing to be wearing a jewellery piece that is a significant part of both history and pop culture!
Diljit Dosanjh, 2025
Diljit's interpretation of the theme, centered around Black Dandyism, came in the form of this opulent, regal look, which was a homage to his Sikh roots. He brought to Met Gala his culture, in its most unadulterated form, with the traditional attire, turban, Sarpech, the works! His Prabal Gurung look even had Gurmukhi words inscripted on them, which was another reference to his roots. His necklace, from Golecha’s Jewels, was a homage the legendary Cartier necklace that Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala wore in 1928. While he wanted to wear the OG necklace, his team was denied access, due to which they had to recreate it. With this necklace, Diljit paid tribute to a historic figure that represented his culture. Beautiful, if you ask us!
Sarah Jessica Parker, 2016
Sarah Jessica Parker truly chanelled her inner Carrie Bradshaw with her 2016 Met Gala look! (athleisure-y shorts, tulle, mismatched heels, need we say more?). But what we really loved about the look is how she paired her Victorian-esque necklace with a look that had a hint of athleisure. She wore a beautiful rivière necklace from Fred Leighton with a cameo pendant. Super vintage and romantic, the last thing you would pair with anything remotely sporty. Which is why we love it!
Priyanka Chopra, 2025
We really loved how Priyanka really let this brick of a necklace had its moment with this Balmain dress. This huge necklace is the Bvlgari Magnus Emerald Necklace, which offered a sneak peak into their Polychroma High Jewelry collection. The necklace mounts one of the largest and most exquisite precious stones in the world. Consider us obsessed!
